Message is: During those years, as a young woman, I spent just about every evening writing letters. I wrote to many, many, many vets serving in all branches in VietNam, first from my hometown (Macon, Georgia) and then from Michigan after I moved. Often I would get my list of "new" vets to write from the Sunday Grand Rapids (Mi) Press. I long ago lost my boxes of letters with any of their names, but wonder if perhaps by chance someone may remember mine. Many responses were from "hot spots" and were often mostly blacked out. A few of the guys even looked me up to say 'thanks' when they came home. I was living in Wyoming, Mi. at the time. Viet does not remeber his father's name since he was only a few years old when his father left Vietnam and his mother died shorlty after. Viet's father and brother, who was ill at the time, were evacuated out of Vietnam from Vung Tau leaving his two other children behind. This was a famous airlift, one of two from this area outside of Saigon in 1972. The veteran probably changed Vinh's last name to his own. His mother's name was Thao Thi Bui and he was born in 1969. He served in the USA Special Forces and was in Vietnam from April 1965 until he was KIA 29 January 1966 at Tra Bong (Det 107). He was an intelligence officer. Before Tra Bong (December 1965 û January 1966), he had been at Camps A Loui (Det 102A/November 1965) and Ba To (Det. A 106/April-October 1965). I am very interested in knowing the Australians who were there at those camps. I know there were some at Ba To because my father mentions them in his letters (no names however). Also, Tra Bong was under the command of an Australian team led by Captain Fazekas. I have recently learned that he passed away in April. The other Australians who were at Tra Bong include: Scott, Palmer, Wheatley (KIA), Swanton (KIA), Hoyne, Dowsett, and Anstee. Of the Americans who were also part of that team: Bussey, Harris, Sershon (deceased) and Foshee. I am very interested in learning about Tra Bong while the Australian/American team was there. From what IÆve learned so far, there was tension in the camp between the Special Forces there and their Vietnamese counterparts. I would like to learn the factors that led to this tension. If there are any other men out there who knew my father or who knows any of the men I have listed, I would sure appreciate getting in contact with you. I was 5 years old when my father was killed and my son is now the same age I was when it happened. I grew up knowing very little about my father and the way he died. Now I want to learn everything, the good and the bad. I would like to learn what my father did while in Vietnam, how camp life was, what operations he was on, what the country was like around those camps, what the threats were, day to day life in the camp, what happened on jungle patrols, who he knew, what they did, how he died. He served in the USA Special Forces and was in Vietnam from April 1965 until he was KIA 29 January 1966 at Tra Bong (Det 107). He was an intelligence officer. Before Tra Bong (December 1965 û January 1966), he had been at Camps A Loui (Det 102A/November 1965) and Ba To (Det. A 106/April-October 1965). I am very interested in knowing the Australians who were there at those camps. I know there were some at Ba To because my father mentions them in his letters (no names however). Also, Tra Bong was under the command of an Australian team led by Captain Fazekas. I have recently learned that he passed away in April. The other Australians who were at Tra Bong include: Scott, Palmer, Wheatley (KIA), Swanton (KIA), Hoyne, Dowsett, and Anstee. Of the Americans who were also part of that team: Bussey, Harris, Sershon (deceased) and Foshee. I am very interested in learning about Tra Bong while the Australian/American team was there. From what IÆve learned so far, there was tension in the camp between the Special Forces there and their Vietnamese counterparts. I would like to learn the factors that led to this tension. If there are any other men out there who knew my father or who knows any of the men I have listed, I would sure appreciate getting in contact with you. I was 5 years old when my father was killed and my son is now the same age I was when it happened. I grew up knowing very little about my father and the way he died. Now I want to learn everything, the good and the bad. I would like to learn what my father did while in Vietnam, how camp life was, what operations he was on, what the country was like around those camps, what the threats were, day to day life in the camp, what happened on jungle patrols, who he knew, what they did, how he died.
