Message is: Anyone serving aboard the Diligence out of Key West Florida from 1971-1972, I need to speak to you.I hurt my back onboard and was I was discharged Aug. 1972 erroneously. 16 months after discharge I had neck surgery. Bone fragments were removed and the VA determined me to 40% permanently disabled. I got my discharge changed from discharge changed from unsuitabilty/honorable to a medical discharge/retirement after long, hard battle with VA. My low back was injured also and I have subsequently had surgery 2 more times. I have final appeal for service connection of my low back pending with BVA in Washington DC.. Message is: When My Father died in 1990, In some of his belongings that were left to me, I found a Vietnam Bracelet, that they used to give out during the War. I have been wearing it ever since his death, I do beleive the purpose of the Bracelet was to wear it, with hope and prayer, that the persons name on it would return back from Vietnam, and it was your job to give the bracelet to Him/Her upon their return. I have been wearing the bracelet more as a reminder to myself of the Vietnam war. Although I was born in 1958 I do remember talking about the war in school, and at home, because i had a couple of uncles who could have been drafted, also it was the "first war to have been seen on T.V" as far as the News was concerned. Anyway I was watching a Special about Vietnam on 7-5-98 it was a story about Hill 881, well after watching the show it made me want to know what actually happend to Maj Norbert Gotner, Did he die in Nam? is he missing? or is he home suffering from P.T.S.D or is he one of the many who came home and commited suicide?? Message is: My brother Pete was a 24-year-old civilian with IVS who had recently been moved from Phan Rang to Vinh Long. IVS was not well known in the Vinh Long area. On Nov. 12, 1965, Pete was driving, unarmed as per IVS policy, to Can Tho in a land rover. He passed a military convoy on the road and within a few minutes was shot. Message is: When I was young, I was given the privledge of securing one of the bracelets that had a serviceperson's name on it that had been captured. We were to wear it and return it, if and when they returned home. I have tried these years to find CDR Monroe, but to no avail. I went to the "Wall" and did not find his name. That bracelet I wore it for the longest time and it has never been out of my sight all these years. It now holds a special place in the foyer hanging on a beautiful and thought provoking print of "Reflections". Where a professional man in a suit is leaning up against the "Wall" with his head down and his right hand on the wall - remembering. And in the reflection of the Wall are "gone" comrads reaching for his hand.
