statement presented
along with her design, March 1981. The Wall was the idea of Jan Scruggs. It
all began in May of
1979 with $2,800 of his own money. It is the most visited memorial in America.

a strong advocate for
non-violence. He won the Nobel Peace Price in 1964.In Memphis, Tennessee on
April 4th, 1968, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
was assassinated.
15. Robert F. Kennedy (RFK). (Photographer unknown). RFK was
JFK's Attorney General. RFK fought organized crime.
He also sent U.S. Marshals and troops to Oxford, Mississippi to enforce a
federal court order to admit the first African-American
student-James Meredith- to the University of Mississippi. He and his brother
supported civil rights for Black Americans, the Civil Rights
Act of 1964. RFK was assassinated on June 5, 1968, shortly after announcing
that he would run for President of the U.S. on March 18, 1968.
