A collection of short stories describing the lives of Vietnamese refugees in the United States. A Pulitzer Prize winner. Butler is a vet.


Farish, Terry. _Flower Shadows_, Morrow, 1992. (out of print, check your library)

A novel based on the murder of a Red Cross doughnut dollie in Cu Chi in the summer of 1970. The author was a Red Cross worker in Vietnam. A realistic description of women's experiences in Vietnam.


Karlin, Wayne, Le Minh Khue, and Truong Vu. _The Other Side of Heaven: Postwar Fiction by Vietnamese and American Writers_, Curbstone Press, 1995.

A collection of short stories and excerpts from longer works written by American and Vietnamese writers, many of them veterans.


Scarborough, Elizabeth Ann. _The Healer's War_, Bantam Books, 1988, 1992.

This science fiction novel, set in I Corps, is, in the author's words, "fantasy but not bullshit." Scarborough was an Army nurse in Vietnam. Winner of the Nebula Award.
