Message is: This is going to be a strange request. I actually know where Frank is (or I can find out from my mom). What I'm looking for are some facts about his service. Frank is my uncle and according to my mom (who exaggerates greatly) he served in Vietnam with the Marines. He did not complete a full tour as his unit was massacred. Also, according to mom, he was one of only a few survivors of the battle. In order to survive they had to lie amongst the dead bodies for days until help arrived. He was discharged due to his wounds and came back to the states. He told his mom (my grandmother) the story once and has never talked about it since. I also heard that he burnt his uniform. I was hoping to find out a little about the battle he was in (which admittedly could be one of hundreds) or find someone that survived that knew Frank and is willing to discuss the battle.

He talks of being a bush marine that was in the hills for atleast 3 yrs. He said his clothing was rotting, they had the soles of their shoes tied on with vines. They were being fired on and his fellow soldiers refused to leave him even though he said go ahead I'll hold them off. Don is short, no more than 5'5. He would have to jump a cliff and he made it to the other side but wasn't able to clear the cliff because of his height. One of the men grabbed him and said come on Short Round their firing on us.

Message is: My dad was a Hospital Corpsman 2nd class in Vietnam, 1966-67 and served with a Marine unit. He is in advanced stages of early onset Alzheimer's disease. He always spoke with deep reverence about the Marines he served with during his tour. If anyone who knew him is in the Waco, TX area, he is being cared for at the VA facility there and it would mean a great deal to me, and I know to him too, if you could visit. He is from east TX and was stationed at Norfolk, VA before he volunteered to go to Vietnam. He received a Purple Heart and Navy Commendation with Combat V during his tour. He had dark hair with bright blue eyes, was highly intelligent, and had an infectious laugh. Was short, 5'6" and slim. He came back to the states and became a high school chemistry teacher and my hero.

He joined the Marine Corp in 68/69 and went to Lejeune and I heard he was on helicopter gunships, though that was second hand information. He did not move back to Maine after the war that I know of. I have tried to locate him for years without success. We went on a road trip to upstate New York so he could see his girl friend before he enlisted. He dropped me off at my house and I never saw him again. Would appreciate any info anyone has, it's been a lot of years but we were really close friends and it's nagged at me all these years that I couldn't find him. I am in southern California now, and I have tried to find him through high school friends, internet sites etc. to no avail.
