Message is: I am trying to find anyone who knew John. He was from Benton, Illinois. He was a very muscular, stocky built guy with sandy colored curly hair. He smoked a lot of cigarettes and had a USMC tattoo on his upper arm. He was near completion of his second tour when he was injured on a land mine and lost his left foot. He was the closest thing to a real father I ever had, even though he was my step-dad. He died when I was 10, so I had only a few years with him. I personally was at Phu Bai, Dong Ha (medivaced from Operation Hastings late July or early August 66 to G4 hospital DaNang area), MMAF, and short peroids at other points. As Air Controllers, we usually received orders and transfers on an individul basis instead of as a unit. In country we were frequently attached to diverse helicopter squadrons. I spent some time with HMM-163 (Hastings). I served at P.I. [Plt 368 (SSgt Littlefield & Sgt Washington) & 375 (Sgt.s Billoti & Cotrell & Cpl Cron) at Beaufort naval Hospital between platoons from injury] 22 July 64-10 Oct 64; LeJuene (ITR) 10 Oct 64-10 Dec 64; Memphis (MAD NATTC) 1 Jan 65-March 65; Brunswick, Ga (Glynco NAS MAD NATTC A-School - Maj. Max Adrian) March 65-July 65; El Toro MCAS (Gen Tharin)2nd MAW Aug 65-March 66; RVN I-Corps MATCU-68 1st MAW ! (Capt. Bercholi) Easter 66- May 67; Beaufort, S.C. MCAS 3rd MAW (Maj.
