Message is: Bob Crocket was a Cpl., served in the Communication Electronics Office, just under the Generals Office. At that time, his home town was Squire, West Va. He left prior to me, and probably went back to Squire. Don't know. I also served in C.E.O., put was placed on a provisional rifle company that conducted sweeps, patrols of the villages in Ashau Valley, around Hill 321 (Di Loc Pass) and around Red Beach. Got my feet wet, so to speak. If I recall, he left country around the later part of 1969. We were with Headquarters, First MarDiv, not far from Dogpatch and Freedom Hill on one side, on the other, the road passed Motor Transport, down to he Pass. Believe the 11th Marines were in that area. We were just abound a bend in the road from 1st Med. Battalion. Squire was a coal mining town with little or no future, so I feel he may have made a careear out of the Corps, then returned to Squire. He had a girl friend there while we were West Pac. That's about all I! can say as far as the last time I seen him. I don't know his next duty station after he left country. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Message is: I'm searching for any buddies who can provide stories or more information on my deceased father Marine Lt. Col. Donald (Don) Raymond Chapell. I don't have that much information but here is what I know: He was at Holy Cross (1948-1952) and retired in 1974. His unit was ready to deploy to Korea when the armistice was signed, he was in Vietnam with the JOD, COC J-3 from July 1967 to July 1968 in Saigon. He was on the USS Forrestal from June 1957 to July 1959. He had several liason assignments Navy and Army. He never spoke of his duties and all the family has are photos without names.
