Message is: Paul Alaniz was a very close friend of my during my High School years. He was Killed In Action on " Mother's Day" of 1968. He wasn't in Viet-nam more than a month before he was killed. If anybody out there remembers Paul, please let me know. For the past 14 years I've been performing with the ONLY "Veteran Band" of its kind from Corpus Christi, Texas. Paul's parents attend all of the local Veterans ceremony in his memory. I saw them at Rockport, Texas yesterday during the Viet-Nam moving wall opening ceremonies. We displayed Paul's Saxophone and his Marine portrait on a chair with the band. I noticed that he was in the same company as my Brother-law who was also killed a year earlier(9-21-67). My card and letters went to PFC Tom Sibley. Throughout the years I wondered what has happened to Tom Sibley. Recently I found the letters while cleaning my mother's house. I hope that Tom Sibley made it out of that war and has and is having a "happy" life. As an adult now, with children, I more deeper understanding of the brave efforts of our servicemen and women. I was one of the witnesses of Gysgt Keefe's bravery in battle. to the men of the first bn fifth marines who fought for life and limb at liberty bridge Gysgt Keefe will allways be remembered as that little wiry guy armed to the teeth with K-bar, M-16,WITH SNIPERSCOPE, Grenades, and a forty five automatic strapped to his hip, a man who had the guts and courage that personifies the phrase United States Marine. Gysgt Keefe was all of that and more. But I will allways remember the long talks he and I had together over many a "salty dog" when the subject allways ended on his wife and kids and the great love and affection that he had for them. There are countless stories and legends in the history of the US Marine Corps. They have been recorded in history books,fi! lms, and song,but I will allways remember my favorite hero sitting in a jeep on the dusty road to An-HOA, Cap pulled allmost over his eyes armed to the teeth waiting for the convoy to start rolling back to Liberty bridge. Lary was in 1st Platoon, 1st squad and was recovering from multipal gunshot injuries to right upper leg and right arm and hand. Doc's would only give him asprin for his pain and was on lightduty. Last time I saw him was when Lt. Col. Falk took command over 1/9 while on the ROCK ...ie Okinawa. S/Sgt. Lee Burns was Plt. Sgt.
