Message is: I lived with Donnie Steere 13 years.He has terrible nightmares, apparantly about combat.He has long hinted at service in the marine corp, in Nam, but it is a forbidden subject of discussion.He seems to have intimate knowledge of certain aspects of the war. However that knowledge is never first hand, but happened to " an unnamed, good friend of mine".He speaks some Vietnamese, basic phrases, used most often to a waitress while dining in an Oriental resturant.Any question by me, concerning his area military service, unit,even "where did you take R&R" is rebuffed. His behaviour is making me question what he hints at.He flies the MIA flag at our home.We made a trip to DC to see the Wall. But when we were there, he only looked up the names of local men, not anyone he served with.I find that strange. I no longer know if I am living with a man so traumatized by his war experience,that he still cannot bear to speak of it, after all these years, or a phoney, who lies by implic! ation.I'd want to know. It makes a great difference in the future of our lives together.I love him .If his evasion about the years 1964 to 1968 are because of his war experience,I am willing to deal with it.If he is a phoney, trying to keep me tied to him with sympathy, for a trauma that never happened, I need to know that.He will then be history.If you knew Donnie Steere in Nam please contact me. If you have suggestions on how I can find out what I need to know, I"m open to them.If he really is a Nam Vet with PTS, I am open to suggestions on how to help him find his way out of the jungle at last. If he is a phoney,I'll help him find his way out of my life. The evasions of answers to simple questions, after all these years, make me uneasy.I have met and socialized with his entire, large, extended family,in the community he grew up in.We live in that community now,with with daily contact with his family and friends. He is not an isolated being, out of nowhere. It is only from ! 1964 when he left high school, to 1969, when he partied at Woodstock,and met his ex wife, that is forbidden territory. The first medivac helicopter was hit. I was wounded by sharpnel in the shoulder, arm and ear and was to be medivaced but didn't get on the chopper.
