Message is: I was working the O.S.I. in Thailand and also with them at Clark in the PI. When I was there, under the cover I had headaches in the Hosp. I am looking for anyone who knew me while I was there and you had feelings I may have turned you in for drugs. I also worked in the M.A.R.S. station at Udorn, hung at the USO a lot playing Ping Pong, Had a monkey named "Joe", worked on the flight line bench stock and I was just about busted for being AWOL. Lt. Stone tried to bust me for being AWOL but I got out of it and he got in trouble instead. Does anyone remember trouble on the flight line during the time frame of Aug. 73 to Aug. 74 where some, maybe one, VC came on the flight line and was shot? I was also stationed at GAFB, CA and did undercover work for the O.S.I. there also. Once I got stopped at the front gate for carrying a loaded, concealed weapon and only got a letter of admonishment for it due to the fact the O.S.I. vouched for me at the time. I worked on the flight line as crew chief in 72-73 and the when I came back to the US, I worked at the 35 OMS bench stock from 74-76. Message is: I am trying to prove service in Vietnam to obtain benefits from the VA for prostate cancer due to Agent Orange. My personnel and medical records from the AF do NOT show service in Vietnam. I was sent TDY from McClelland AFB, CA to Tainan Air Base, Taiwan in April 1966 and rotated in and out of Vietnam until July 1966 when I was sent back to CA. I was a radar repairman on the EC-121D and was often Team Chief. I have 2 buddy statements and a statement from the Big Eye Task Force Op. Officer, Major Figeroid but I've been told that is not adequate proof. Is there anyone out there who may have served with me during that time who may have orders to Vietnam that has my name on them? All my records and belongings burned in a house fire in 1969 - my wife, myself and 2 boys survived with no injuries but were able to salvage nothing. Message is: Joseph Martinez was an infantryman that was walking point one day, and was pined down in a clearing when he unknowingly walked into a bunker complex. When the rest of his platoon reached the clearing, they opened fire from the bunkers. Martinez hit the ground and lay perfectly still, he had no cover and could not advance nor retreat. I don't know how long the fire fight lasted, but the platoon was forced to retreat, leaving Martinez in the clearing. They assumed he was dead, and so did the enemy. Martinez told me that his only hope to servive, was to wait until dark and crawl back into the jungle, and make his way back to safty. But before it got dark enough to escape, the enemy came out of the bunkers, rolled him over, took his weapon, field gear, went thru his pockets and left him for dead. After dark he crawled back to the jungle, and made his way back to his company. Some time after that, they sent him to HHC to work with me. I was the ammo driver for our company. Martinez helped me sling ammo for 2 or 3 weeks, and was probably the only guy that could ever keep up with me. We had some good times working, and talking together.
