I found on pownetwork.org that his remains were returned 12/30/97. How do I go about finding out where he is buried or other information about him. I am no relation to Captain Sittner, but my cousin, who served in Vietnam, recently died and I realized I had unfinished business. I am not sure what I'm supposed to do yet but I don't ever want to forget what Captian Sittner and my cousin Freddy and others gave and gave up. Message is: Hey Riley... Where are you? Remember me... I was in the lower rack on day shift and I took my discharge in Vietnam and one morning Sgt. Cook happens to walk in the hootch about 10am and spots me... the only guy in the lower rack and yells there's a war going on and orders me to get to work. I refused... saying "not today sarge" "I think I'm just gonna lay here and inspect the bedsprings underneath ol Riley's bunk" and he was getting red in the face threatening to have me court marshaled... Everybody in the top racks were awake by now and then you had to spoil all the fun by telling the sarge "you better leave that civilian alone" I had to get up and show him my discharge paper taped on the inside of my locker door and trying to save face he sputter "then what are you doing in these barracks?" Then I took out the letter from the 1st Sargent granting me permission to stay in the barracks until I could get a flight out. He stomped out of the barracks and I yelled! back at him... "Hey sarge... what time is it?" and He says 10:30 and I yell back "Jesus... what the hell are you doing in these barracks? There's a war going on... you better get your ass to work... us civilians need protection. You could get court marshalled." And he stomped out in silence.

Message is: ..looking for (then) TSGT Mario Alfaro, flight line maintainence chief assigned like most "regulars" from Nha Trang to the "Shadow" units. The 71st SOS (reserves from Indiana) were sent to Vietnam in early '69 and sent to FOL's throught the country. TSGT Alfaro was stationed with Flight B, Phan Rang at least up until the reservists left and the unit became the 17th SOS in the summer '69. Many of the "regular" AF enlisted people attend the 71st reunions, held almost yearly, and would like to find TSGT Alfaro to invite him to join us. He was probably a career enlisted person in the USAF and would now be retired. The old crew chiefs and gun-plumbers are looking for you!

Message is: I served with Jack Justice at Vinh Long, Vietnam as a Weather Observer, first quarter of 1972 before going to Can Tho during second quarter of 1972. On my AF Form 7 in Missouri my overseas assignments are missing. I have my Vietnam medals but VA won't accept them as IN-county Vietnam proof required for AO exposure (Diabetes). I also served with John Ditty (Irish); Tsgt Juna Sibila; Capt. John McLaughlin. We were Air Force serving on Army bases (Vinh Long & Can Tho). We were in USAF Det 11, 5th Weather Squadron, serving undr First Weather Group out of Ton Son Nhut. I spent less than 180 days IN-country before going to NKP, Thailand. So my DD-214 says SEA=Yes Vietnam=NO. But all you need is ONE day of exposrue to AO to qualify. Houston, I (we) have a problem!

Message is: VA Claim pending. Can't convince them I was in NAM. There's a gap in my AF Form 7 at National Archives (duties to Nam & Thailand) not showing. DD-214 shows 9 months and 23 days of overseas duty. If I wasn't in Nam, then where was I? Jack would remember me I'm sure. The hootch maid TAY called me "Losie", or "Rosie" for my last name Rosario. From Vinh Long we went on a truck convoy to Can Tho when Vinh Long Army base de-activated on 1 March 1972. I have my Vietnam medals but these were given out to anyone on a Navy ship off-shore, or anyone who flew over the country. These don't prove IN-country for Agent Orange exposure claims. There's got to be a hand few of us in this situation. I can't believe the Air Force was so negligent in Not tracking us, or the archives not having Air Force rosters past 1966.
