Message is: I am hoping to get responses from members of the Aerial Port Sq @ Danang AB, Vietnam, who were there during defolient operations and who feel they are suffering from contact with Agent Orange. I was assigned there for several months in 1966, and understand defolient operation ceased in the fall of '66, shortly after my departure. Agent Orange was shipped through the APS, usually in 55 gallon steel drums, usually without warning labels. Drums for trans-shipment resided on the ramp next to C-123 operations. We waded through leakage in working that ramp. A "ranch hand" aerial spray unit was located adjacent to the APS. I have had health problem that, I feel, were caused by Agent Orange. Larry Howes, a member of the ranch hand unit, recently died of cancer which he attributed to Agent Orange. Only reluctantly and at his end, I understand, did the VA help him. I am writing this on my own behalf and the behalf of others who are affected; I am not writing this on behalf of an organization or government. However, I am prepared,with your permission, to use the information for our common cause of hopefully getting more VA attention. If you know of someone who has died of cancer; if you have experience "fatty tumors," cancer, skin cancer or problems, impotency or if there are child defects; please let me know. The more responses we have the better chance we have of helping our selves. For example, it would be impossible to prove skin cancer was caused by Agent Orange usless most of us have had the problem and our percentage is vastly higher than the average. I will respond to all messages. Tell me if you do not want me to use your name in possible correspondence to a public official who help us.
