MIKE RUMMEL--Bio

My payroll signature was Michael P. Rummel. I was stationed in-country from 30 July, 1968, until my last flight out of DaNang on 16 November, 1970. (I extended twice to avoid Camp Lejeune. The joke was on me as that is where I RelAcDu'ed 19 January, 1971.)

My important posts of duty were Electronics Maintenance Company (I was a Crypto Tech -- MOS 2881), Maint. Bn., 1st FSR/FLC; then MWCS-1, MWHG-1, 1st MAW; and then back to ElMaCo, Maint. Bn.

My real desire is to memorialize my high school buddy, PFC Woodrow "Woody" Charles Cronkrite, USMC. He was KIA about 1600 on 10 September, 1967, near Con Thien, RVN, while attached to 2nd Squad, 2nd Platoon, India Company, 3rd Bn./26th Marines.

I attended 3/26's second Reunion in July '94 at Tyson's Corner, Virginia. They have another Reunion scheduled for 21-25 August, 1996, here in San Diego. I am scheduled to attend.

They are a great bunch of guys. I met Woody's Fire Team Leader and the Corpsman who saw him get hit, but neither remembers much about him because he had just transferred in from MATCU 62, MAG 16, a couple weeks before he was KIA.

So...I would really like to hook up with someone who knew him in MAG-16. I belong to 1st MAW, Vietnam Service. I've written to umpteen members with no success in finding anyone who remembers Woody.

Semper Fi.
Mike Rummel
