Message is: LOOKING FOR ANYONE WHO KNEW LT JG ERNEST KRAJSA, my brother who served aboard the USS KEARSARGE back in 1967. We lost him in a plane crash over the Phillipine Islands. Trying to figure out yet exactly what happened. We were told that he and Tom Sprage (Sprague?) who was pilot in another plane had a destination set where they were going to meet but Ernie never showed..along with Ernie was his co-pilot Dick Sullivan who also perished in the crash. What we were told or should I say what I remember is that Ernie who is good at taking photos was probably taking them and Dick piloting the plane..when Ernie realized that they were too low and heading for mountain. Ernie probably grabbed the controls and got the plane up and over but a backdraft swung them back down and into mountain.. Due to the density of mountain area it took awhile to find plane and remains..we were told to have a closed casket. Now what I remember is that this happened when Ernie was having OFF TIME/NOT ON DUTY..what I and others in family wonder is WHY was Ernie able to take a plane when not on duty??? ESP WHEN ON A CARRIER IN MIDDLE OF OCEAN!!! Also, Tom Sprage had spent time with our family at our farm in MAHNOMEN, MINNESOTA and after the accident HE NEVER EVER MADE CONTACT with our family...WHY??? ESP when he was in other plane!! This has always bothered me and I need answers..Ernie left a 3 wk old baby boy Michael and his wife Pat...Ernie knew of Michael but never ever got to see him or hold him.. Lt JG Dick Sullivan was Ernie's co-pilot and they were lost in a freak plane crash Nov. 20th 1967 ..Wreckage ws located SE of Baguio(Whereever that is)in thickly forested area. The remains were flown to Naval Hospital at Subic Bay Nov. 24th 1967.
