Message is: I am seeking Lt. Hoke. I do not know where he is nor if he is alive. I do not know if he was a career officer or not. I first met him in August of 1966 as the CO of the unit, and last saw him on or about mid-July 1967. He was a Medical Supply Officer (USN). His senior aide at that time was one Senior Chief 'Army' Armstrong (USN), the Chief was rather elderly at the time, so is probably not alive today. Another much younger chief petty officer Greene worked in the same office as Hoke as a bio-medical equipment repair specialist. Hoke or Chief Armstrong may have been from around the area of 29 palms, Calif., not sure which or if they were...I'm relying on 32 years of fuzzy memory. III maf at Chu-lai was tasked with various units to provide all forms of logistical support to the surrounding USMC combat units in Quang Tin and Quang Ngai Province in 1966 and '67... An example of this would be convoys of various vehicles and supplies out of Chu-Lai to an lsa or lz or staging area for Marine Operations. These convoys were usually led by a USMC Capt. (name unknown) but I would also like to find him as well. Most of the convoys and lsa's or staging areas were in the South around the duc Pho and Mo duc or Quang Ngai city AO's. I really need to find the USMC capt. (name unknown) he communicated from time to time with Lt. Hoke. If I can find Hoke, perhaps I can find the USMC Capt. Or if you were on any of these operations out of Chu-lai perhaps you know the Captain's name. We set up lsa's for Operations such as Golden Fleece near Mo Duc in Sept. '66, and others such as Op. Rio Blanco west of Quang Ngai city in Nov. 66 or Operations such as Sierra or De Soto later on...the same Capt was in charge of the lsa, and Hoke was sill in charge of FLSG-B medical Supply back at Chu-lai. Two other navy corpsmen attached to Hoke's unit I would also like to find. John Edwards from R.I., and Herbert L. Hilderbrande from kansas, last seen in the Dallas area in the late 60's. Both these men were stationed at NAS MEMPHIS flight line dispensary following their Vietnam tour. Semper Fi! My dad was a Navy Signalman First Class, and he was killed on June 18, 1969 during operation Big Muddy on the Vam Co Dong River in South Vietnam. His River Patrol was Division 591, and his Task Force was 117,116. My Dad enlisted in 1957, and again in 1961, and stayed until his death in 1969. During his tenure he served on the USS Essex, USS Capricornium and USS Independence. He was on Mediterranean Tour on the USS Forrestal. He was born in Slater Missouri on December 21, 1938, but he was living in Inkster Michigan in Wayne County when he went to serve. Dad's service number was 516-42-24. I was only a year old when I lost my Dad, so all I have are the papers the service gave me to go by, so anybody that might know ANYTHING at all about him, or about the operations going on at that time in that area, please contact me. In addition, the paperwork the Navy gave me indicates my Dad received a number of awards and I would like to find out what he might have done to get them. Message is: He died on the harbor tug I was on. YTL 452 in DaNang Harbor. I have never been able to locate his gravesite. He is listed as being from Shelbyville, Indiana but no one that I have found from there can verify that fact. He was "My Chief" He was BMCS the day he died & I too am a retired BMCS. I thought maybe before something happens to me I just might be able to pay my final respects. Message is: I was on the LCM 918 on the Cua Viet River on the 24 January 1968 and was blown up by a mine. Charles Mott White and Michael Stephens were killed and another guy, the new guy was wounded. I was wounded also and recupped for six week and returned to duty on the Perfume River. Was wounded a second time at the firebase at the mouth of the river.
