Message is: Gil Bates served as my Chief Petty Officer when we moved from Da Nang to Phu Loc. He was responsible for getting our corpsmen digging trenches and holes to store walking wounded. His foresight led to our having a safe place to store more than a hundred fifty wounded during the TET of 68. I don't know if any of our corpsmen were recognized for their contribution because of how busy, mobile, and expendable we all were. I would like to speak with Chief Bates and personally thank him, if this is possible. If not, please forward this to him so he knows that I have thought of him many times and wondered where he wound up. The last I heard he was in Oceanside, CA but that was a long time ago when I couldn't address the horror of that time.

Message is: I have a bracelet from 1977 with a name of a man who was named a prisoner of war. It was given to me by a man living across form my parents in base housing in North Carolina. I wear the bracelet a lot, and I'm asked lots of questions about the name on the the bracelet which is LCDR Richard Nelson.
