M60 Ammo

Everyone carried machine gun ammo. That was the last weapon that we wanted to run out of ammunition! Most of us wore two belts of it over each shoulder Poncho Villa style. That left the ammo open to contamination. The next best way to carry it was in a cloth pouch on your ruck sack but this slowed the process of getting it to the gunner. The best way to carry it was in the metal box it came in but that added weight to an all ready heavy load.
