This M shaped pink granite "Living Memorial" and the black granite "Killed in Action/Missing in Action" memorial standing directly in front of it was dedicated on May 17, 1987. This was the culmination of years of work by the charter members of VVA Monroe County Chapter 142 with the help and generosity of local businesses and the people of the county. It was also the beginning of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial at Heck Park.
