In Memory

I wonder if any flowers grow
on the battlefields where they died?
Americans, their allies, and Vietnamese...
Did they go on to heaven , side by side?

Do you believe their souls rest in peace
among flowers growing wild and free?
Or, do they restlessly roam the land
as a sad reminder...as a peaceful plea?

Do they look down on us with sadness,
wishing they hadn't had to leave?
Do they know how much we miss them,
and, stand beside us as we grieve?

I wonder if any flowers grow
on all battlefields left bare?
If no flowers grew there at all,
would we still remember...would we still care?
