Until George publishes "THE RIVER SAILORS", here's a short list of books
for those of you interested in more info about the Mobile Riverine Force
(MRF).
-VerKuilen Ager
"THE LIONHEADS"
by Josiah Bunting
One of the earliest novels about the
Viet Nam war, it focuses on the 9th Infantry and its work with the MRF. The
author was an Army officer, Viet vet, and Rhodes scholar.
"RIVERINE OPERATIONS, 1966-1969"
by Major General William B. Fulton
This
is part of the Dept. of the Army "Vietnam Studies" series. It was available
from the GPO, but my copy says "reprinted 1982" so don't know if it's still
in print. Try interlibrary loan.
"RIVERINE FORCE"
by John Forbes and Robert Williams
Number 8 in "The
Illustrated History of the Vietnam War" published by Bantam Books. Good pics,
including many in color. Although written by two Brits, the text is fairly
accurate.
"THE BROWN RIVER NAVY: THE RIVER AND COASTAL WAR IN INDO-CHINA AND VIETNAM,
1948-1972"
by Victor Croizat
Exactly as the subtitle states, and not
recommended to those who have a primary interest in U.S. ops in RVN. Only 45
pages (of 160) cover the American involvement.
