Message is: Would like to contact Downs because he was on helicopter that crashed at special forces camp at Plejerang on 11/1//66. we were flying in and out of LZ alpha, I believe in support of 4th division, all dy. Message is: Looking for any Medical Personnel that took care of me after an injury on the flightline during an nighttime attack in Vinh Long. Back injury resulted in putting a sheet of plywood under my bunk to help with the pain. The morning reports cannot be found if we even had such a thing. After two weeks my back was a bit better and then it was business as usual. The Medics were always very helpful and always there for anything. I was in the 96th signal detachment and the Medics gave us a dog call "GC". The 114th and the 96th were very laid back organizations, we all knew our jobs and did them every day with very little military protocol--no formations/marching/saluting, etc. Any help would be appreciated. Message is: Rickie is my brother. He did not die in Viet Nam. He was emotionally scarred. He was in and out of Veterans Hospitals in Michigan. I believe Kalamazoo Michigan. He was not able to cope. Message is: I met a young woman, Thuy Canh, who is about 40, who says her father was an American GI and her mother was Vietnamese. She has never found her father but would love to meet him and show him his granddaughter. She said she was told by her mother that he was from Texas, spoke fluent Vietnamese, so much so that locals thought he was Vietnamese. She said she thought he was with the Army but might have been with the CIA. He left Vietnam during the war but came back with a wedding ring hoping to marry her mother and take her back to Texas but when he left her mother married a Vietnamese and didn't want to go to Texas. The woman, Thuy (pronounced Twee) said her father wanted to name her Helen which was a family name but that her mother didn't want her to have an American name in Vietnam. After Saigon fell, she was put in an orphanage. The VC raided the orphanage and killed all children who they suspected were fathered by Americans. She was spared because the orphan! age workers told the VC that she was fathered by a French man. Thuy watched as children who were part Black were murdered in front of her. She came to the U.S. when she was 17 on a special visa for children of American armed forces. She didn't know anyone in the U.S. and spoke no English. She eventually got her beutician's license and is a hairstylist in Kirkland, Wa. which is where I met her. She has a thirteen-year-old daughter. Knowing that her father wanted to marry her mother, she suspects he would not be adverse to meeting her but she would respect his wishes if he chose not to have anything to do with her. But she never has had a father and would love more than anything else to meet him. The only thing she knows about him is his last name is Rankin, he came from Texas and she thought his first name might have started with a "P". If you could locate him, I have a feeling it would make two people joyously happy.

I didn't want to spoil it for you guys. I am proud of the guys, that I have served with. If, you remember, they had submitted me for a Bronze Star for our performance on Operation Attleboro. Well, Capt. Jones called me in and made sure, that it wouldn't happen. Then they shipped my ass home. I can honestly say, that I served with some really great guys, you and Decker had it together. For this I was blessed. We had that whole mess figured out. Just make it back, and in one piece. My feeling, is that You and Decker took some pretty significant risks, when we ran down to D Co's forward site and then started to help bring out wounded. You two should have been given a Bronze Star for your actions. That mortar attack wasn't over and we all could have died. You and Decker were ahead of me going down that little slope. And, nobody else was out there moving around. You guys kept going, when they made fun of the schrapnel piece caught in my right shirt pocket, and I had to get back to the jeep radio. I remember the lieutenant getting pissed off and snatching the backpack radio, that he was signed for. It was like we had stollen it. He shouldn't have left it with us. And, It was expendable inventory. What a Butthole. I don't remember, if it was you or Decker, that told me, that I made the right call in calling in the Dustoffs, that the one at D. Co. was destroyed. I tell of how you and Decker, knocked all of the scorpions off of me that one night. And many other good memories.Not one sting. You guys have every reason to be proud. And, that's a fact. I am pleased, that you two stood up to the system, too bad, that you got tossed from Commo. Hope, that all is well. We're Brothers forever. Your Pal, Dave Marchetti

I tried to do a follow up with them, but they were no help. To them, you are just a "contributing artist". I am proud of you and Hanson and I speak highly about you two. You both should have gotten a Bronze Star for your actions at Tay Ninh on Operation Attleboro. There was nobody else moving around, durring that mortar attack. You may not realize it, but we were instrumental in saving a whole bunch of lives that one night. Hell, on many nights, but that one was a keeper. Before the shipped me home, Capt. Jones called me in and told me, that for getting those Dustoffs in early, being on the ball, taking additional risks and being instrumental in saving many lives, that I had been submitted for a Bronze Star. But, that since I was rotating and getting out of the Army, that he took the liberty of giving it to a lifer. I had told him, that you and Hanson rushed down ahead of me and confirmed, that the Chopper on site was destroyed and that I had made the right decision calling for backups from Long Binh. Then, you and Hanson began bringing out wounded, before anyone else was moving. And, that you two deserved a Bronze Star. He just said, that our Company was only allocated two Bronze Stars. And, that he was going to give them to lifers. I quit writing to you guys, because I was afraid to slip and say how bad it was to come home. I didn't want to ruin the dream for you guys. You and Hanson had your act together and I am very proud to have served with you two. And, I am proud of you two. We knew what it was all about, just getting out and back in one piece. He was awarded the silver star and posthumously the DSC for action around March 11 1968. I would especially like any photos of the area or even his lst cav unit as his letters all disappeared from my folks home upon a move, I have about four months of his tapes. He metions Major Stone asá his "6" and a Gen.Colson or Paulson who pinned the silver star on him. He was in charge of observer/scouts and one of the enlisteds drew a picture of Sgt Snorkel on his hooch and named it for him.He was interviewed by an AP reporter in April before his death and also John Lintell of CBS news. Message is: Growing up, I have always heard my grandmother talk about her brother Bob's children that he had while in Veitnam, He served there during the war, while there he married a lady named Neki, they had two children, after the war Robert came home to South Hill, Virginia, he went back to Veitnam and was going to bring the family back with him, but he past away while ther due to sickness. Message is: Michael was an ambulence driver serving with the Army from approximately from 1968*1970, He suffered from Post Traumatic Stress and upon arriving back in the US after his tour of duty he did not report in stateside and was considered AWOL. Message is: I received heat stroke on firebase rockasaan. I was the medic of that particular unit, and I never reported what happened, because I didn't know what happened. I have had seizures since I got out of the service, but have never found proof that this happened. I know that most things like this never were reported to the higher ups. You received treatment for whatever the problem was, and then you moved on with your day. I woke up in Bob Bramer's hooch, he was the one who told me I had heat stroke, some medic from another unit took care of me. If Bob is still out there, he could really help me with proving that It actually happened. Anyone who was in that Unit 319th Arty Division, we were on Firebase rockasaan 3 times, and in Quantri for about 3 months, also Alpha 1 for about a month.

Message is: I am looking for anyone who served with me.I was Spec 4 at the time. We escorted convoys up and down Highway 1.I was machine gunner on the V-100 the Ram. In Song Cao 5/71,I was hit in head with shrapnel from mortar round the same night bridges in Tue Hua and Song Cao were blown up. Hugh Forrest was injured the same night. Since we couldn't get to hosp., medic poked some shrapnel out with pencil point. Just wanted to say hi and thank my brothers for watching my back. Things could have been a lot worse for me. I also remember in Tue Hua, a little girl by name of Hum (maybe about 10) tagged around after me. She was being raised by call girls; they taught her enough English to tell me the day I left that she loved me and would miss me. I always wondered about how she made out in fall of Saigon; is she safe, etc. Does anyone remember her?
