Message is: i met richard in 1973-74.we fell in love, and we lived together from sept.1974-july or aug.of 1975. we lived in riverdale of the bronx new york. i had met his mom and grandmother during that year, and knew of his sister gail, but i am not sure if we met. richard and i both drank [we met in a bar in the neighborhood],and eventually it became a problem, and by the time i found out i was pregnant, richard and i had broken up. he had just started working for the transit authority cleaning the trains at the bedford park train yards in the bronx, and he helped me out for awhile.[ that is NOT why i am writing} then he started a new relationship, as did i,[the man i started seeing knew the baby was to be richard's], and so eventually richard and i lost touch. and life went on. richard's son grew up not knowing that the man i eventually married wasn't his father. i had always wanted to tell my son paul about his real father, but i didnt know how, and time just kept passing b! y. in 1994 i came into recovery for alcoholism, and have just celebrated my 14th year sober. in 2003, paul joined the marines, and the desire to tell him about his father was re-kindled. he was now a young man, and surely had the right to know of his father. and if richard was willing, to meet and know each other.[ i didnt know richard had already passed away]. now paul is somewhere overseas[i am not allowed to know where.],but i decided to get assertive about finding richard for him, so when he came home[God willing}, i would have a wonderful surprise for him. and it wasnt until just now, that i finally found richard on your website, on taps II, only to find out that he passed away in 1993. i am devastated and heartbroken, not only for myself, but especially for richards son paul. i am now 61 yrs.old. paul will be 32 in march. he was born march 8, 1976. richard's sister gail, was the one who put richard's obituary in taps, but she left no contact information. so i was hoping that you might have her contact information, and that you could get in touch with her. and if you could, i was then hoping, that she could find it in her heart to understand and forgive me, that perhaps she could contact me, and we could talk. it would be wonderful for paul to know he has an aunt, and for gail to know her nephew. he is a fine young man, and i know that he is someone she could be proud of, and i know that richard would have been so proud to have had him for a son. i pray that she would be able to forgive me for waiting too long to do this, if not for me, then, for richard's son. as i pray my son paul will be able to when he finds out. and i was hoping that perhaps when paul comes home, gail might be willing to meet her nephew, and perhaps be able to tell him what a great guy his dad was, and maybe show him some pictures, as he doesnt even know what his dad looked like. Message is: My father passed away just 2 weeks ago and we are desperately trying to find out information about his service. We have tried to obtain his records but are told they are sealed. Not sure why? He had mentioned things to us about being a marksman/sniper and being put on planes, blind folded, taken to a location where perimeters for a target were given, carrying out the mission and then blindfolded and put on a plane "home". He said he couldn't tell us what he did. He even said he would have to kill us, which we thought to be a joke until we realized how seriously it was being said. We are not sure if that has anything to do with his records being sealed or just that he couldnt bring himself to talk to us about his service. My husband is career Navy, came home from Expeditaionary Warfare in Iraq to stand watch over my father until he was interred. He presented my fathers flag to my mother. I need to know what my Daddy did, although I am tremendously proud just knowing ! that he served: I need to know for our peace of mind and for some closure. Can anyone help me. His MOS was Lt Truck Driver but he said he was picked for something else because of his marksman abilities. Does this mean sniper, what is SP TRPS and can anyone tell me what they did, maybe even in 1963. My Dads enlistment location was Woodland PA. and was transferred to the ARNGUS of PA upon expiration of term in service. There is some question as to why he was in for such a short time, why his record is sealed and why he was "made" to sign away his benefits. Polk la. for advanced infantry trng. ssgt. langley after our basic was over going back to vietnam for his second tour. i am looking now for ssgt langley to thank him for the many tests he put me through which i now realize was to help me survive vietnam. i served with the BIG RED ONE division in 1967-1968 as an infantry squad leader and through ssgt lee langleys help and guidance not only survived but during the tet offensive rescued 3 men and myself who were trapped under fire but managed to overcome the enemy wining the silver star, bronze star and many others which i give all the credit to the training i recievd from men like ssgt. lee langley and of course my LORD and Saviour JESUS CHRIST. if ssgt. lee is still alive my wish is just to give him and big thank you which is so long in coming. always a BIG RED ONE gary w dyer

The letter states that he put my husbands name in for a Bronze Star for Gallantlry. Message is: Graduated from Artillery OCS, FT Sill, OK in June '67 with Fred. He went to Jump School and then to the 82nd and shipped out to RVN w/one of the 82nd's brigades in late Fall of '67.
