He did two years in Vietnam and was initially assigned to the 25th Admin CO. but because of the Infantry OCS he was with different LRRP teams almost every week. He was never given his Infantry badge or Pruple Heart despite his service and injuries. I'm trying to document his service to get the recognition he earned. His records don't show the infantry because he was assigned to the Admin Co. And he never received the Purple Heart because, in his words "There were others that truly deserved it and his injuries were minor in comparison." The base was hit and there was casualties on both sides although none from our company. this base waas just a tent city for the grunts to get supplied. This wason the Cambodian border Paast Tay Ninh. This was between April and September 1970. There was only 2or3 of us that broke down and the main convoy went back. We were there I believe 2nights before the next convoy.

After Nam, Mike was an ATC instructor with the 1st School Support Company, Fort Rucker, Alabama from about June of 1969 until his discharge in about June 1970. Mike was originally from Illinois and prior to going in the Army, he had some kind of employment with WLS radio in Chicago. At the time of his discharge, Mike had a 1967 Corvette all tricked out.

Message is: A/1-506th Vietnam Currahee veterans are looking for the metal work honoring A/1-506th Vietnam KIAs, which was on a small monument in front of the A/1-506th Orderly Room at Camp Evans. In December 1971, as the 1-506th was leaving Vietnam, this metal work was stripped off the monument and put in zippered bags (similar to bank deposit bags), which were then carried to Da Nang and turned over to officials who said that the bags containing the metal work would be shipped to the 1-506th BN S-4 at Fort Campbell, KY. None of the A/1-506th Vietnam Currahee veterans have seen this metal work since Vietnam. Message is: i would like to locate a fellow veteran and buddy who was with the same unit i was with in vietnam. most of us used nicknames and/or other terms. i was buddy/the old man, oldest in the section at the time. pfc stone ( stoney ), was a laid back individual who could disappear as quickly as he showed up. at bien hoa air base in 1967, the 173rd airborne relocated and the 101st airborne airlifted from stateside to replace them. pfc stone was my shotgun on a supply run, we were stopped by an air force a.p. who was an alert force escort. while we were stopped, another 2 1/2 ton cargo truck came down the road and hit us from behind. the a.p. said we were on our on he had to go. stoney and myself with the 101st driver went to the 44th motorpool. we reported what had happened, and the 101st driver had stated his motor sgt. send him out on the road. with the knowledge he had no brakes on the truck ? our motor sgt. told stoney and myself to get the wrecker driver to help fix the truck and get back on the road. no accident report was filled out, and we were not asked if we needed or allowed medical attention ????? my mind was quite cloudy that day, of the four folks that were there --- would like to contact stoney. accident and some other folks we knew. if you out there or someone knows you, give a shout. david hebner, tommy lampa, nimo, the kid, little brother, crawford from new york also, and myself ray corder. thank you, end of message
