Message is: Coke and I used to run the daily reports (sorties, KIA, MIA etc)at midnight from Camp Holloway to the Air Force Communication Center on the other side of Pleiku. We were supposed to go in a convoy but didn't have the heart to put one together when you only get to sleep every other day. We would take a deuce and a half an M-60 and go. I don't have a good recollection of the names of the guys I was with. I worked in operations and was a door gunner on a UH1B. I may have spelled his last name incorrectly, but it is close. He was from Penn. Any one who served at Camp Holloway in 1964 and early 65 drop a line. I came home just prior to the attack that killed 8 and wounded 140. I thought everyone in my hooch was dead. Message is: I can't seem to locate Mr. Williams in any Database. He Died on Dec. 25, was listed on the grave marker in Ocoee at West Orange Memorial Park, as a SGT. U.S. Army, Florida. Some years ago I saw where a young man bearing his name was promoted. I assumed the family was still in the area and the young man was named after his fallen relative. The family has never known that I, a stranger, existed. I wrote a poem about Mr. Williams after seeing his grave in a the cemetary that was overgrown with weeds and a tiny tattered flag was all that was there. I have visited his grave every Memorial Day except two, since 1975. At the moment I can't find the poem or I could offer more complete info. I can only assume that the military does not list deaths on 12/25, Christmas day, or that Mr. Williams has been left off the monument in Washington,D.C., as well as, the memorial at the Orange County Convention Center. I would like them to know that a total stranger adopted him as their ! personal hero, because I was fortunate enough not to have lost anyone in my family in a war, all the way back to my Great-Great-Great Grandfather who served in the Union Army in the War Between the States.
