Message is: I was US Army signal corp stationed at the ICS side Tuy Hoa. Sept. 1970 to March 1971. I am looking for anyone that has recollections of sniper / sapper fire and pulling reactionary force duty in addition to our regular duties. We were suppose to be awarded the Bronze Star but it was submitted wrong and returned for resubmittal and that is the last anyone ever heard. I flew courier runs to Qui Nhon. On one Mission we took heavy fire and the Pilot took evasive action equipment and weapons went flying ending with weapons landing next to the POW's on board things were pretty tense for a while. If anyone remembers any of this or me I would appreciate the contact. If anyone knows where the unit records are hiding please let me know.

Also, at one time we took 23 POW's along with a squad of ARVN Marines and evacd them from a clearing after a short firefight while waiting to extract. Siegal was a pointman and tunnel rat. Have stayed in touch with Sgt.Ayjian"Vito"-60gunner and "Doc"Neal Heppler all these years, we get together and wonder about the rest of our guys we fought with. I know I just about had a heart attack. Well being the self preservationist kind I got transferred over to Marble Mountain and the 501st PSC, you know air-conditioned REMF duty. That didn't last long as the stand down was in full swing. After pissing off the XO I was banished to the perimeter for the rest of my time. Occasionally I was able to drive the half-blind supply sargent on his "runs" to the air base as he was half blind and needed a driver bodyguard, I insisted on 40% of the take and got it. Anyway life was lots of fun being a moving target or a aim-point for mortars (tower duty). Anyway just trying to let you know that I made it back and am currently living outside Detroit, going to the VA all the time as I was fortunate enought to contract Hepatitis C, which helped accelerate ! a cirrhosis condition along with it. Living on full disability so life is easy but boring. If you get this send me a message see how things worked out for you. My grandfather served in Phu Loi and Di An during the years of 1966- 1973. He met my grandmother whose name is Tran Thi Lan who worked in the cooking unit of the Phu Loi base. My grandmother had never told me about her relationship with my grandfather and what separated them. However one thing that I know is that my grandfather knows my dad exist. According to my grandmother she lost contact with my grandfather when he went back to America about a year after my dad was born. My dad was born on May 23rd 1967 at Binh Duong. My parents and I came to the United State in 1992 under a program that allow Vietnamese people who have a mix bloodline to come to the United State. We don't know a lot of information about my grandfather except the unit that he served in in Phu Loi and that his last name was Smith. My grandmother told me that he was of medium height, ! probally in his late 20s- mid 30s when he met my grandmother. He was a supervisor in the cooking unit where my grandmother work. As I mention above my dad has been spending all these years looking for my grandfather with out success because of one reason, we don't have enought information.
