Message is: Harris Lester Collins was a resident of San Angelo, Texas. He is listed as having attended San Angelo Central High School and possibly to be a 1961 graduate. He was a draftee and entered the Army in the summer of 1967 via Abilene, Texas Induction Center, trained as an M.P. He was reported to be divorced, his casualty page shows him to be single. He was the son of Mary H. and Oliver Collins. He may have had other brothers and sisters. Oliver Collins died in 1984 and status of Mary H. is unknown. He served with the 9th Military Police Company, 9th Division at Dinh Tuong. He was killed in an ambush on April 26, 1968. I am attempting to write a biography on him for the Permian Basin Vietnam Veteran's Memorial at www.veteransmemorial.us. I found a listing of daughter who had a listing with Lost and Missing Relatives on the web. She states she is his daughter by a relationship of Harris and her mother before he went into the Army. Her name is Misty, but e-mail addre! ss is inactive. Two M.P. sites report that he was awarded a Bronze Star and a Purple Heart and he received a posthumous promotion to Corporal. Message is: Windy was my cousin and my very best friend. He was drafted and after his first tour in Vietnam was sent to Ft. Eustis, VA, and then volunteered to go back to Nam. His MOS was 61B20 (water craft operator & engineman). He'd put in a 1049 for Saigon, but wound up in Bong Son by way of Qui Nhon. The casualty record lists his death as a suicide. Although this may be true, I don't believe it. I'm looking for someone who either knew him, or can help me find someone who knew him so I can find out what happened.
