This was CH-37 Helicopter unit supporting all of the central highlands. I was the unit supply specialist during this time. Message is: I served with the 4th Supply and Transport Battlion, 4th Infantry Division, Camp Enari, Pleiku, Vietnam, during March 1968 to March 1969. This was my second tour of duty in Vietnam. I retired from the Army in 1984, USMA, West Point, NY, as a Sergeant Major, E9, after 23 years of service. I was the S-4 Sergeant of the battalion and I was also the Mourtary Affairs NCO, located behind the S-4. During my tour I was hospitized at Camp Holloway with malaria and after three weeks I returned to the battlion. Once my tour was completed I was reassigned to Fort Meade, Maryland for more malaria treatment, and after three years I was granted the authority to stay in the Army, but could not give blood for 10 years. My medical records never made it from the 4th Medical Battalion to Fort Meade. They are still missing today, after many attempts to lcoate the records. I am now 61 years old and I have filed a claim with the VA for an enlarged kidney and an enlarged prostate gland as ! a result of the malaria. As of this date the VA will not honor my claim as I do not have any record of having malaria. As the NCO of the Mourtary Affairs, I was required to make recovery of fallen warfightters during my tour as I did during my first tour in 1964 and 1965. I am now and have been treated for PTSD for years and, again the VA will not honor my claim as I do not have any proof of my duties in Vietnam. Request that anyone in the battalion who has knowledge of my tour, please contact me, in hopes that I can obtain a statement that I was assigned to the 4th S&T Bn and that I was in the hospital with malaria. I shared the billets with a SFC Wilborn M. Kilpatrick, Jr who was the PSNCO at the battlalion HQ. During my tour with the battalion I came in contact with the following officers: Jesse G. Loving, 1LT; John F. Logan, 1LT; Donald E. Estes, CW3; Geroge A. Puckhaber, Cpt; Vernon R. Porter, LTC, Bn Cdr; Ildefsono Lombnana, Major, Bn XO. I was awarded the Bronze Star Medal for my duties. Message is: Hi my name is Carl Younce, and I was assigned to the 399th Trans Co (DS), during Nov 1964 to Nov 1965 at Nha Trang, Vietnam. I was in the unit supply section. I did a second tour of duty in Vietnam with the 4th Infantry Division, Pleike. I retired after 23 years of active duty as a Sergeant Major, E9. I retired from the USMA, West Point, NY, in 1984. I was recalled to active duty in 1990 and was assigned to the Dover AFB, Mourtary Affairs, US Army Escort Det. I am now 61 years old and in declining health and at the end of my second tour, I was sent home after a six week bout with marlaria, 70 pounds lighter and very sick. I manage to regroup and complete my 23 years in the Army. Once I returned to Fort Meade, Maryland for marlaria treatment, my medical recordes were lost in the shuffle from the 4th Inf Div to Fort Meade. In late 1968 I had malaria when I was with the 4th Supply and Tr! ansport Battalion, 4th Infantry Division, in Pleike, Vietnam. He flew out of Fort Lewis, Washington and was first stationed in Cam Rang Bay before he was sent to Chu Li (hopefully the spelling is correct) His basic training was in Fort Ord, CA and then shipped out of Fort Lewis, WA. He remembers a freind named John Stark who was from Seattle. If anyone has any information or knows of this unit or my dad please contact me. As I said I'm trying to surprise him for Christmas.
