That is really all that matters because no matter what anyone thought of the war, our sons and fathers did their job and no one can ever take that away. My parents moved our family to the Midwest and we lost touch. I didn't learn he had died until the late 1970s, after I had become a newspaper journalist. For years I did not want to deal with his death. I don't know why. Then about six months ago, curious, I obtained a news clipping from the Torrance Daily Breeze. I learned Chris died on Feb. 8 while on reconnaissance, but that he won the Silver Star. From research at the National Archives I learned that he had pulled another soldier from an armored personnel carrier that had been fired upon. He then tried to pull another soldier from the smoldering track and was shot and killed. I guess I'm looking for some kind of connection that I have lost. I want to write about Chris. I'd like to find his wife. I'd like to know what he was like. I want to understand wh! y he died. For years I buried my grief and an odd sense of guilt. I named my son after Chris. I want to tell his story now to my son. It will make him seem still alive to me. I hope there is someone who can help me in my search. Thank you.
