Daddy was killed in South Vietnam (Binh Duong) on November 20, 1971.I was an infant.I was not raised by my mother so I am unable to get any information from her. My father's mother really doesn't talk about it. I try not to ask because I know that it hurts. People think that because I have never met my father that it doesn't hurt. Not a day goes by that I am not reminded of him.I have shed many tears for him. I was blinded by the mine blast, and lt. tierney lost both legs. we were both med e vaced out of the field and sent to nas da nang. I went to camp zama in japan. And that was the last time that we were together. I remember he was from colorado. But that is all I can remember.

Message is: Michael Eckert is my half brother who I did not know Existed. He was only 16 when my father allowed him to go to Vietnam and he returned after two years addicted to drugs and suicidal. He was in a Boston V.A. hospital for a while. He was born in 1948 and I have found a death record in the Social Security death index of a Michael Eckert for 1988. The Death Certificate was filed in Pennsylvania. Michael was born in Massachusetts. I believe he was in the Army, but I am not positive about the Service. Chittendon, Artillery Captain Gerald E. Lethcoe (observer), Captain Charles A. Conroy (Chaplain) and WO John D. Jones (co-pilot?) Many were overcome and burned by the gas. We had to land the ship, set up a perimeter. There were complications getting us out, then no one knew quite how to treat the gas when we got back to camp (remember how it BURNED!?) We brought home medals, but did we bring home anything else? Was! it Agent Orange? Has anyone suffered side effects, or filed a claim? Message is: On June 15, 1970 3 people from 1st platoon Co. B 2/35th Inf were wounded in a firefight. Herbie Sapp was wounded in the leg. Gary Robinette was hit in chest (by ricochet). The 3rd guy was brand new to the platoon. I'm sure that I knew his name at the time but have long since forgotten. He suffered a serious arm injury (close to traumatic amputation). He was taken out by a jungle penitrator from 60 - 70 foot high canopy in a very sloppy extraction. A recent glimpse of an old dustoff report has his name penciled in in handwriting hard to read. It seems to lists him as FNG "SUHRUPP" . They give the line numbers for the other 2 but this guy was so new that they may not of had his name on record and so could of misspelled it. There is no Suhrupp listed in an internet telco/address check. I'm guessing that it may have been Schrupp or even Suhruff. I was the medic who treated these guys. I've recently had the opportunity to meet with my old friend Herbie at a reunion. Gary Robinette died back in the 80's. I've always wondered how the new guy made out. We never heard a word about him.
