Message is: I recently visited Vietnam for the first time. Obviously, I am not a vet. I met a man there who remembers this serviceman as a good friend. At the time, the Vietnamese was 12-15 yrs. old. He lost Joe's address because his house burned down in 1978. He has tried to locate Joe by asking any American he has encountered to help him without any success so far. I told him I would try. Joe offered to bring this boy to America back then, and as a man with a family now, he remembers Joe fondly and is frustrated that he has not been able to write to him or keep contact in any way. He remembers Joe being from Boston, Ma. area and he was "tall" with brown hair and was an engineer that worked with the water supply. If anyone knows how to help me locate Joe, I would appreciate it. Message is: The person I am searching for is my father and I have not seen him for about thirty years. I am 32 years old and am now married but I would like to see my father if possible. His name is Merle Matthews and he was born in Kansas City Missouri on March 13, 1915. I know very little of him but I have a photograph of him at about age 53. He once lived in the country of Belize in the mainland of Central America in the Caribbean around the year 1968 which is where/when I was born and where I now live with my husband and daughter. I was born on September 4, 1968.The only distinguishing marks I am aware of was that he had no toes on his left foot and had a scar on his chin. I am not sure what period of time he served in the military or which section of the military he served in. I was only told by my mother that he was a vietnam veteran and that he was pensioning in Belize at the time when I was born. Having my daughter meet her grandfather would be something very special to us.
