Message is: I am trying to assemble a cancer study of all members of company C 1/8 Cav during the time jan 1, 1970 till jan 1, 1971. I have developed a rare cancer and although I have had surgery again as of 12-99 I have been told that chemo or radiation would not be a cure. My cancer has been described as originating from a parasetic infection that has sat dormant for a very long time. The "fluke"like parasite is ingested from foul stream/river water and attaches itself to the host. I remember my company having to use stream water for drinking because we could not get logged. Message is: This man was my uncle. He died from Meningitis in Fort Benning before going to combat. His hometown was Aguada, Puerto Rico. I am conducting research on the issue of Puerto Rican soldiers that died as casualties of war. I am trying to find someone who knew him or that can answer some questions. He died on January 25, 1969 two weeks after arriving to the training camp. The two other men that were sent to Fort Benning, N.C. from his same hometown also died from Meningitis. I am interested in researching the conditions of the barracs, were they safe, why did so many soldiers died from Meningitis even before finishing the basic training. Message is: My story is a bit different. I met this fellow in 1975 on the Washington State border. His name (he told me was Robin Baker) I married him a year later and we had 2 children. After 6 years of marriage things started to fall apart. We separated and he moved to Vancouver, B.C. I did not hear from him for a few months so I called his family in Vacaville, CA. They told me that I had married him under an false name that his correct name was David Flagler and that he served in Vietnam. I was completely surprised as he said he had never been in the war. I contacted him a few weeks later and told him I knew the truth. He went to a Veterans Hospital in Palo Alto, Ca for awhile. When he returned he was not much better than when he went in. He seemed to be in a fantasy world. I think his birthdate is Sept. 26, 1950 and his full name is David William Flagler - birthplace I think is New York. I have 2 beautiful daughters with this man and we now have a grandaughter 2 1/2 years! old. Also his parents are in their 80's and not well. We have not heard from him in 10 years. I would really appreciate any help you could give me locating him.

When Booker and Sgt Almost was walking the perimeter a large fruit bat wrapped around Sgt Almost face and he threw it onto Booker's leg. It was funny at the time, but later when they had to take a series of rabies shots it wasn't so funny. Okee and myself were on listing post at fire base near Ban Me Thout when we found an elephant chained to a tree. This was a young elephant but to us boys it looked HUGE. Someone took pictures of me riding this elephant. We had been shooting M79 into trees when we it start hollowing. We feed it fruit out of our sea rations to help it calm down. Afterwards we set it free. When on a convoy from Pleiku somewhere south we encountered a tiger. He was not a happy tiger. When myself and Sawyer had mararia we were sent to Nha Trang hospital on the coast. I do not like bringing this event up but, it may help someone else remember me....When Fish (nickname) was working on a chain saw the gas became ignited and his clothing caught fire. I do not remember where we were at the time. He was airlifted out and I never knew any out come. I was a red-headed freck faced kid also known as BAMA or BrandNew.
