Message is: I servrd with Captain Thursom in Viet Nam in 69-70. We had received our commissions together October 12, 1967, and ended up together with the 199th in 69-70. He had served an earlier tour with the 199th as a platoon leader, managing to be a part of both Tet 1 as a platoon leader, and Tet 2 as the C.O. of Charlie Company. He was the best of the best, and all I remember of his background was that he had been a California surfer before entering service. I have often wondered what became of Dave, if he was career or went back to the world upon return from his last tour in country. I retired from the service in 1971 with a medical disability, and lost track of Dave after our tour with the 199th.

Message is: Hey Guys! I am sitting here pounding out a simple message on this damned computer, and wondering how many of you have been screwed by our "wonderful government"? I may not be the first, but I hope I may be the last (now ain't that just about PURE STUPID?) I have been going to the Veterans Admin. Hosp. (and Walter Reed USA Med Center) for the past 6 1/2 years. They told me there was nothing they could do for me. I busted up my back on my last "jump" (they put us out in 25 knot winds on a cold day..., the DZSO said it was good training). I hit the ground like a ton of rocks (backwards, on a downhill slope..., and none of my SF "friends" could remember that drop.., even the ones who helped me off of the duce to chow). In spite of my "close SF team members" lack of memory, the Army retired me at 40% disability (28 yrs service..., thank you sooo much). I finally went to a civilian Doctor in Nashville, TN who told me I HAD TO HAVE SURGERY ON MY BACK NOW!!! The MRI's showed my spinal cord compressed to 1/16th inch at the L-5, L-4 Level!!! Guess what?..., He operated on me (it took 2 hrs..., I was up & walking, without pain, four hours later!!!) I have used vitually all of my leave/vacation time over the past 6 1/2 yrs going to Army/VA Hospitals. I have been in chronic pain, had my life screwed up (in-general), been passed over for promotions, etc., etc.. FOR WHAT??? Because I tried MY BEST TO BE A GOOD SOLDIER??? My wife left me..., probably because she couldn't put up with a "broken soldier". I looked in uniform, and my 201 file looked good..., but that don't mean spit if you can't do "PUSH-UPS" So, don't you ever get tired of soldiers (GETTING F_____)? I know..., you are out of uniform..., you don't have to pull guard duty now..., Don't you wish there would have been someone who cared enough about the "little guys" to call their Congressmen and raise a little hell? People..., those E-3's & E-nothings ain't got a chance if you don't care enough to support them. You really think the Army or The Veterans Admin. really gives a damn about their "patients" (maybe if you are a Lt. General)..., go spend a day in a VA Hospital and see the "wonderful care" our veterans get. DON'T YOU EVER GET TIRED OF THIS BULLSHIT? I WOULD IMAGINE THE LIKES OF GEORGE WASHINGTON OR THOMAS JEFFERSON WOULD GET SICK TO THEIR GUTTS IF THEY COULD SEE THEIR COUNTRY NOW. Hey now..., we did our service, let the others take care of it now. The last letter I received told me had made it back to the US only to be seriously injured in an auto accident on his way home to NY.
