Message is: James was my Mother's brother. He was hard of hearing and talked very low. My uncle was supposed to retire in 1975 but was discharged in 1971 and died in 1972 from cancer. I know he served in Vietnam, I remember writing to him when I was about 12 yrs. old. I was wondering if anyone remembers him and if they did, would they share that information with me. One story I remember of him was when he was walking along and found himself in a mine field. Supposedly he stepped on a mine and since he was hard of hearing, his feel sense abled him to know what happened and he didn't lift his foot off, he had to stand on the trap for over 45 min while it was unarmed. Message is: We are trying to locate a guy who we only ever knew as 'Gil' who spent 3 days with us in Manly, Sydney, Australia while he was on R&R during his 2nd Tour around August, 1969. He was "sent" to us by Bruce Cooper, an Australian gunner who was serving in 131 Div.Loc.Bty. during 1969. At the time we met Gil, he was widowed, (Sandy was his wife) and he had a very young daughter at home called Lori Anne who he missed dreadfully and loved to bits. To refresh his memory, I would like to mention the names of the group he spent time with - Gaille and Kevin, Marie and Rick, and Malcolm and Sue (us).He may well remember his last night at the Cheetah Room Nightclub.
