I have been looking for you for a while and just wanted to let you know what happened to me after Vietnam and get caught up on what you have been doing. You stand out as one of my closest friends and I remember so many fun times (gambling and drinking) and how you helped out your family at home in any way that you could. I am sorta of running out of time since I have Agent Orange and seem to be getting a little worse each year. I am 100% totally and permanently service connected disabled. I go to a Spinal Cord Injury Center every year for a check up to see if I have gotten worse. I work hard on staying out of my self pity and stay as active as I can. I am unable to work but keep busy with other things. I belong to the Special Forces Association here in El Paso and they are a very active group and a bunc! h of great guys. Message is: Trying to find out if Butch(?) made it home. When last seen he was a staff sgt. in an infantry unit of the 9th inf div. Don't remember unit. He had only just made staff sgt. mostly because after 5 mos he was the longest surviving member of his platoon. We met at Old Reliable academy and became friends. Whenever he got back to Dong Tam we would get knee walking drunk together. I left in July 69, was part of Nixons withdrawal ploy, sending 25000 men home, who only had a few weeks left in country. So I never got to see Butch before I left. My duffel bag was blown up 2 days before I left, and his home address was in it. I think he was from Georgia. The Army version is they were killed by a booby trap but because no one could confirm it was set by the enemy, their deaths were non-hostile. He was sent to Air Cav Troop and I stayed at the Aviation Platoon. He was wounded while crewing on a LOH, shot after spotting Vietcong.
