As an infantryman, I know that soldiers don't usually fight for some lofty ethereal concept of duty and honor, but rather for their buddies and fellow soldiers. A bunch of us were holdovers for a while at Ft Lee and finally got our orders in April 70. When we got there we scattered all over the country. I ended up in Phu Bai in the Engineers in a small 5 man outfit. Several ended up in Phu Bai also but working in their supply MOS. He said they were not authorized as a co but were attachment to headquarters. However, after an engagement in Jan. 1968, they were authorized as Dog Co. In this tape made before his death he mentions Lt. Burton and said that he was his platoon leader in the field and was then his xo (executive officer), Please help me find either of these men. Message is: Marty Geisen was my best friend when he got drafted in December 1969. After he completed his basic training he went to Ft. huachuca Arizona to complete some advanced training in combat survellance. He was apparently involved in "Secret: projects and told me in a telephone conversation on June 30th 1970, that he was "Never coming home again". Eight days later he was pronounced dead as a result of an aircraft "accident". There was NEVER any explanation or body to prove that this "accident" ever took place. Message is: I was in Jump School and Ariborne AIT with Kenny Davis (nick name "Chip")When we left jump school I was assigned to the 173rd Airborne Unit going to Viet Nam. I believe that Kenny was assigned to the 101st or 82nd on the way to Viet Nam. I stepped on a Land Mine in Viet Nam and was sent home to remain in the Hospital at fort Benning Georgia for more than a year. After I got back to the U.S. I received a Christmas card from Kenny. He did not know that it was going to be a girl but if it was than it was to be named Eileen. If it was a boy it was to be named after him. Mike was involved in Operation Pheonix. Message is: Trying to find the name of a young PFC that was wounded on the primeter of Lai Kae Base Camp sometime in 1969. He was from Louisana and was around 19 yrs old. All I can remember is the above and his last name began with a (B). I think the time frame was in the first half of 69 but not sure. He was a real good friend and we was very close. I'm looking for him to restablish contact with him and his family. I was a SGT and worked as a mechanic in the Engineer shop of D Co. 701st Maint.Bn. He was white and about 5'10'' tall I'm not sure but think he came from around Barton Rouge, LA. The bunker that he was on was number 23 or 24 on the primeter. There was a young man by the name of Hicks on duty with him at least that is what I think his nam was. He was a SP4 and worked in the automotive and tank shop along with the PFC. He was assigned to Advisory Team 70 to the 3rd Bn. 8th Regiment 5th Infantry Division of the South Vietnamise Army.He was in the area around Phu Bi during most of the time he was in country. Any information would be greatly appreciated. All immediate family is deceased and it is difficult to obtain info. It is believed he spent a considerable amount of time in the Phu Bi area. He was in the Army from 1947 until the time of his death. He also served in Korea and was stationed in W. Germany prior to going to Vietnam. I am attempting to get a complete listing of his military service. I know he had been awarded the bronze star and the vietnamise cross of gallentry while in vietnam prior to his death.
