He was assigned as an IP at Rucker\Stewart\? and was killed with all aboard during a night flying exercise in late '68 or early '69. Hometown Hanford CA. Highly decorated. Message is: I am a registered nurse in Northeast Texas. Recently my cousin recruited my assistance in helping a young man reconnect with his American father. He does her nails for her. One day in general conversation, she inquired if he was American. He answered "Vietnamese". She told him she knew that but wanted to know if he was also American. He then responded "half-breed". He speaks English slowly and somewhat broken. His ability to speak English is better than his understanding it. He went into a back room of his shop and returned with a piece of paper that was worn for caring it with him all the time in search for his father. It was a letter his mother had written to the American Embassy when he was 13, asking the American government to allow him to be part of a program that would educate him and provide for his physical needs. They never received any response. He was living with her father in a seperate city at the time --living in poverty. He is now self sufficient, but continues his lonely search for a father that lived with them only breifly and exited his life before age l. He tells us his father left there with an American Birth Certificate for him and a photo. I looked up William S. Horton Jr. or II in the Army in Nhatrang in 1967-68. I found 2 listed --one Horton, William S and one Horton, William S J. They have different MOS's. They could be two different people or the same person. He was there, and came back to the US for awhile, leaving a pregnant companion there. When he returned to do an additional stay- the baby boy was 4 months. He stayed a few more months then left permanently. She left the child with her father and went to another city to try to make a living. She was never able to reunite with the child except an occasional visit--her father raised him in poverty. He recruited our help to locate his American father, since his verbal communication skills are inadequate to preform the searches he needs too. Please help if you can. The unit had been in Chu Chi during Tet 68, and came up to Quang Tree, where they found a bunch of NVA in a church. That operation was documented in a book History of the 1st Cav, and their actions post Tet 68 in Quant Tree. I remember guys in our platoon (now dead)talking about that action. Later moved to LZ Sally, north of Hue & Camp Eagle and south of Camp Evans, not far from the An Lo Bridge on the Bong So River. It was one of the major infiltrations routs to Hue.

Message is: I was a member of your company. I do not have that information because soon after my arrival home from Nam my mother had a flood in her basement and she threw everything out. This included all information about which specific unit I was in and the medals I received. The specific reason I am looking for this person is one night while out on a R&D his command point was overrun and his Forward Observer was killed. During that night I was hit in the arm with some schrapnel. It was a small cut and burned like hell. The medic applied a small butterfly band-aid to it and said I would be alright. I never received an award (purple heart) for this , but didn't think I should because many friends of mine lost their lives. Other friends insist that I should get this award because I was in fact wounded in combat. Any help in this matter would be greatly appreciated.

Message is: Recall something in Tiger's , forgot alot. Anyone who recalls incidents during combat or Standown of June 68 would surely be appreciated to hear from you. Was in second squad, Seargeant Charles Phelps was my squad leader, later was wounded and replaced by Seargeant Hise. Got in unit just before Lieutenant Purdy was wounded and replaced by Lieutenant Raymond. During Standown which was supposed to last five days , someguy in the tigers tried too fragg the first seargeant and all the members of tigers were sent back out to field. On way to landing zone to wait for chopper Lieutenant Raymond came and informed me my orders for R & R had just comed in. I went to Bangkok and never recalled if tigers did go out. R & R came and went, got back to Vietnam and had too go back out till my ETS which was days away. Beleive SeargeantKnotts was acting first-seargeant then.

Message is: Can anyone please help me find my Dad? Here is the story. My Mother, Lynn worked as a cashier for the "NCO And EM" club in an ARMY CAMP #330 which is near BIEN HO in PLEIKU. A slow, not to mention very early morning (3-4 a.m.), approximately in March of 1967 prompted my mother to play with the phone. When she picked the phone up, little did she know that the American male voice on the other end saying, "Hello? Hello?" would be the father of her first child. He was from CAMP #937 which neighbors CAMP #330. They made arrangements to meet and were dating for about six months before "Ken" had to leave. Before leaving around late August or early September of 1967, Ken asked Lynn to meet him in AN KHE and QUINHON which are two towns that the departing troops were to stay en route of going home. Ken and Lynn parted in QUINHON exchanging addresses and promising to write eachother. But neither wrote, and Lynn dismissed the addresse, not knowing she was pregnant. When she found out, it was too late for she had misplaced the addresse. Here are some more clues that may help. From what my Mom can recall, my Dad worked with radars and satellites; possibly in communications. He was an orderly gentleman between 20-25 years old. He stood roughly six feet tall with brown hair and eyes. He was always a neat man form his uniform to his apartment. He enjoyed Diana Ross and the Supremes. His buddy's name was probably "Wayne" (my Mom is not too sure). If anyone can help me, I would greatly appreciate it. I just want to know my Dad. THANK YOU for reading, Diane.

Message is: I was wounded at a compound we shared with the ARVIN's near Di Linh. I need an officer that remembers the shelling of that night (sometime in 1971 I believe). I have not recieved a purple heart as the event was not entered into my records. At the time we were having "PROBLEMS" with the locals in our AO. Anti-American demonstrations were held in Bao Loc that same day. The shelling came from an ARVIN unit on another hill nearby. We decided at the time, not to let the ARVIN's know that one of us was WIA. We placed a Perimeter up between us and the ARVIN company we shared the hill with, along with goodies to keep them on their side. I have letters from guys that witnessed the incident, more would be helpful, as the Army will not issue the award without confirmation from an officer and information from anyone that was there. Message is: Does someone remember a Hillier "Raven" C&C pilot who was killed by groundfire on 18 August 1968, believed to have been in Lonh An Province south of Can Giuoc, ESE of Rach Kien, near Ap Tay Village. He was on a mission with a USArmy Colonel Brigade commander (name unknown) and an Australian FAC pilot serving as the colonel's Air Liaison Officer for calling in ordinance, etc. The pilot is believed to have been married a week before in Hawaii (on/about 11 August 1968) and also wbelieved to have been KIA on his 21st birthday. He is not recorded in the US casualty list for the day he died - 18 August 1968. His name is not W/O Eisenhour or W/O Faverty who died that day and are recorded. The pilot I am seeking the name of is not listed in the MIA list either. His body was recovered as the Aussie pilot saw it arriving at a base where he had been taken for medical treatment after surviving the chopper crash and bullet graze. It seems the pilot's dogtags were taken from the body and this may have contributed to his not been correctly identified. If someone remembers him or knew of his widow, please e-mail me. The reason for this is to gather evidence for the Aussie who was recommended by MG Julian Ewell commanding general 9th Infantry for a Medal of Honor in a letter Gen. Ewell wrote to the Aussie pilot's USAF CO on 20 August 1968. The Aussie never got any award. 30 years later, Gen. Ewell asked the Australian Government why not! I am part of a small team trying to identify the colonel in that chopper and gather other documentary evidence that the incident took place - despite Gen. Ewell's and other letters stating the fact 30 years down the track the australian Govt needs a little more for any award to be issued. Also seeking anyone who may have been a 2d Battalion commander (MRF) serving under ceither Colonel Benson or Colonel Roberet Archer on or about August 1968 and knows if either were downed in a chopper. (Arched died circa 1978, Benson has not yet been traced).
