Danny went to Vietnam in Jan 15, 1970 and served until he was killed on June 2. 1971 along with WO Michael A. Lamusga who arrived in Vietnam in Jan 1971 till he was killed on June 2. 1971. Danny was the door gunner and Mr. Lamusga was the pilot of the helicopter. Both my cousin Danny and Mr. Lamusga was killed when their helicopter (LOACH tail number 66-17905) hit some high power lines while flying low due to scattered ground clouds along Highway QL1 to FSB Furr. They were on a combat mission along with the crew of a AH-16 composed of a Pink Visual Reconnasissance Team. Because the POL point at Bearcat (assingned station) was inoperative, the pilots flew to Lassister Heliport at Bien Hoa, to refuel. They struck power lines, at Grid Coordintes YT319117, 2 kilometers North of Highway QL1. I am looking for anyone that knew my cousin and may have some pictures and memories to share with me. He was a very dear and very much loved cousin that I miss very much even to this day. So please anyone who knew either of these men in particular SP4. Message is: Jimmy was my cousin. He served, I believe, 4 tours of Vietnam. After returning home in January of 1970, he cut off all ties with his family and in June of 1970, he took his own life. On October 25, 1968, he was serving in a rifle company in Kien Hoa Province about 5 miles south of Thuc Giang in So Vietnam. His unit was crossing a stream, it was reported he lost his balance and was caught up in the current. Rescue attempts were made immediately but were unsuccessful. Searches made downstream on the day of loss, but he could not be located... Aerial searches were made by helicopter, but he was never found.

Message is: I'm writing on behalf of my father who doesn't know I'm doing this (which is why I didn't include his address). I actually don't know how he would take meeting up with any of his troops because it's only been about the last 15 years that he's stopped having nightmares about Vietnam. War can take a long time to get over. I know he was with an infantry unit working with the Montagnards his first time over. His second tour was with an armor company. He often mentions his unit was the first American unit to re-enter Khe Sahn after it was abandoned. He also talks about LZ Nancy a lot. The parachutes hanging in the trees and the cratered, moon-like landscape are the stories he often tells. I wish I knew what his area of operation was and what units he was with but I decided to fill this out on the spur of the moment. He does mention that at one time his unit was attached to a much larger Marine detachment. He does not have many fond memories of those times because he felt the Marine commanders were not up to par. Anyway, please respond to me and I'll pass any info along to him. Thanks for your help.

I'm writing my own memoirs about my time in the Persian Gulf during that relatively "peaceful" war. I say that since it does not begin to compare with what happened in SE Asia three decades ago, or across the world five decades ago--my Dad was in that one. Of course the Gulf War was not all that peaceful for the thousands of poor dumb Iraqis who died needlessly--we (mostly B-52's) killed too many of them while missing the ones who really deserved it. Message is: Dominic was a dustoff pilot with the 283rd and was shot down in the city of Kontum during Tet 68. He was not hurt but left Vietnam shortly thereafter. I was there that day and need to talk to him about the event. I understand he was from riverside california and lived near March AFB.
